Data-aware product · Case study

Star Auto Group

A responsive vehicle-shopping experience designed around a firm boundary between public inventory and the sensitive operational records behind it.

The public inventory site is live. Private workflow details describe implemented scope and are not presented as fully deployed.

Separation, validation, recovery

Make inventory easy to shop without exposing dealership operations.

Customers need fast ways to browse, filter, compare, and understand vehicles. Staff workflows involve sales, payments, imports, reports, and backups that should never leak into that public surface.

The product had to connect those two realities carefully. Public listings need current vehicle information, but the source records and update workflows require validation, preservation, and recovery protections.

Customer experience and operational safeguards in the same scope.

I designed and developed the responsive public inventory experience and the data-aware application work that supports dealership operations. That included translating an existing administrative context into safer publishing, import, reporting, payment, and recovery workflows.

Public product

Inventory browsing, vehicle detail pages, galleries, filters, featured listings, and comparison for up to three vehicles.

Private operations

Sales and payment records, reporting, controlled publishing, import previews, backups, merge checks, and rollback protection.

Data changes must protect the records that already matter.

Public and private separation

Customer inventory should expose only the intended vehicle information, never internal sales, payment, or administrative records.

Existing records

Incoming inventory data can overlap with records already connected to images, payment schedules, and operational history.

Import confidence

Bulk updates need a reviewable preview and validation before they are allowed to alter stored data.

Recovery

Riskier merge operations need backup and rollback paths instead of assuming every import will be clean.

Put safety checks before mutation, not after damage.

  1. Separate public inventory from private operations.Customer pages receive the information needed for browsing and comparison while sensitive records remain in authenticated workflows.
  2. Preview merges before applying them.Safe Merge shows the expected effect of an import so conflicts and unintended changes can be reviewed first.
  3. Preserve linked business records.Merge handling accounts for payment information and avoids treating an existing vehicle record as disposable data.
  4. Deduplicate gallery data.Image handling identifies repeated gallery entries so imports do not quietly multiply customer-facing content.
  5. Prepare a way back.Backups and rollback protection make recovery part of the workflow rather than an emergency afterthought.

A controlled path from private records to public discovery.

The system separates data preparation and publishing from the browsing experience. Validation, deduplication, preservation, and recovery protections happen before approved information reaches public inventory.

Inventory and publishing workflow

  1. Private records
  2. Safe Merge preview
  3. Validate and resolve conflicts
  4. Preserve payments and deduplicate images
  5. Back up, publish, or roll back
  6. Public vehicle discovery

Customer layer

Responsive inventory cards, vehicle details, image galleries, filters, featured listings, and comparison keep discovery focused on shopping.

Operations layer

Sales, payments, reports, imports, backups, and publishing controls support staff work without mixing it into the public interface.

The experience has to feel simple even when the data is not.

Accessibility

Responsive layouts, semantic structure, clear controls, keyboard access, and visible focus support shopping across devices and input methods.

Security and privacy

The public/private boundary limits the data exposed to customers while authenticated operations handle sensitive business records.

Technical SEO

Delivery includes technical search fundamentals and structured page metadata, with public pages organized around useful inventory and vehicle content.

Testing and recovery

Import previews, validation, merge checks, backup, rollback protection, responsive review, and customer-flow testing address both data risk and interface quality.

A live public inventory experience with deliberate operational boundaries.

Customers can browse, filter, inspect, and compare vehicles through a responsive public site. Behind that experience, the implemented workflow treats imports, payments, images, publishing, and recovery as related data responsibilities rather than isolated screens.
